Though he only ever saw his castle in its construction stage, Ludwig II's dream was technologically very advanced by 1892 standards. It featured hot air central heating, running water on all floors (even hot and cold in the kitchen!), and toilets with automatic flush.

Today the facades hide Bosch technology, including fire protection in the famous Singers' Hall. Standard fire detectors would have meant installing eyesores in the beautiful ceiling. Instead, two smoke extraction systems were chosen, which means the fire detection is virtually invisible.
