Drottningholm Castle, Sweden

For many people, Sweden leads the way when it comes to using heat pumps, not only because it provides a wide range of state subsidies. It also has some prestigious major projects.

One of these is in Drottningholm Castle on the island of Lovö, west of Stockholm. The Swedish royal family heats its residence with the help of a heat pump system. The energy comes from the lake, and the Unesco World Heritage Site is equipped with Bosch systems. Heat pumps with a capacity of 300 kilowatts were installed in the castle. These work like a refrigerator in reverse. Instead of taking heat from the interior, they take heat from their environment for heating and hot water.
