Destination: Mars

Up, up, and away

How can you land heavy, highly sensitive research equipment on Mars safely? By practicing! Every detail of the landing is being tested in a spectacular simulation before the measuring equipment for the Mars mission even makes its way to the red planet. A launch tower with a swing jib, both hydraulically driven and electronically controlled by Bosch Rexroth technology, position the NASA landing technology under a gigantic helium balloon – with the utmost precision. After that, the balloon transports the payload to the test altitude and the simulation flight can begin. If the new landing technology proves its merit, it could help bring people to Mars one day.
