Your car in the electric socket

The latest analysis, in 2015, indicates that there are 1.26 million vehicles of this type running in the world, including the hybrid vehicles charged in the electric socket. Although as yet there is a concentration in few countries (80% of the fleet is in the USA, China, Japan, Holland and Norway), the number is 100 times greater than that recorded in 2010. In Brazil, there are a little more than 4 thousand hybrid and electric vehicles, an extremely small quantity compared with the 49.8 million recorded by the National Traffic Department.

People are enthusiastic about electric vehicles for different reasons: they do not need fossil fuels during the drive, which means zero emissions of CO², the driving is more dynamic than that with combustion engines and they produce less noise. Bosch develops electric activation systems and regenerative braking systems for different types of vehicle, from electric motors for hybrid vehicles to fully electric vehicles.

How to charge an electrical vehicle?

The answer seems easy: connecting it to the electric socket. But the car is not a cell phone. Plugged into the conventional network, an automobile takes approximately eight hours to charge fully. The solution has been to use recharge stations, devices which supply more power and accelerate the process.

Bosch works in Brazil in developing two models, both compatible with various types of vehicle. Power Max 2, of household use, is portable and easy to install. With the aid of an application, the user will be able to follow up the recharge by the smartphone, in real time – it takes three to four hours. The other model, still in the prototype phase, the Fast Charge is for commercial use. It takes 30 minutes to recharge 80% of the battery. It will also allow the process to be monitored by application, which will be able to locate the nearest electric service station.

Charging infrastructure

Bosch software solutions make it possible to link up charging points run by one or more operators. That enables drivers to use their smartphone to find and reserve the nearest available charging points. Bosch technology can also be used to network different mobility services - for example, electrical car sharing, local public transport and electrical bicycle sharing. That yields smarter business models and gives more and more people access to electromobility services.
